What is your role?
Programme Manager for WASH – My role is to lead the OCA Sesheke field office and provide project management to the team and leadership role by overseeing the WASH activities being implemented in both the hard and software components, and work with stakeholders on WASH-related activities
What made you decide to work for On Call Africa?
I have always wanted to give back to the community in any way I possibly can do so. On Call Africa provides me the opportunity to work with communities in areas that are not easily accessed and usually left out of the benefits of basic services including water and sanitation. Working in the rural part of Zambia makes you appreciate the things most people would take for granted like electricity, roads, water, and sanitation.
What were you doing before you joined On Call Africa?
I was working under the Ministry of Health as a Chief Environmental Health Officer based at HQ in Lusaka and my roles included WASH, IPC in HCF, and Pollution Control among many other roles.
Why should someone give up their time to volunteer for On Call Africa?
When you volunteer with On Call Africa, you will get the satisfaction of having reached out and helped the most needy population. It will provide you with a different experience from all you have had in volunteerism and you will definitely sign up for a return leg.
What’s your biggest challenge for the year ahead?
To ensure our targets are attained and to reach all the planned facilities, however, I am very optimistic that working as a Team, we shall attain our set targets.
Tell me something about you that no one knows
I am a perfectionist and love to pay attention to the last detail.
Have you got any tips on Zambia for future volunteers?
Zambia is a beautiful country, with a vast amount of places for you to visit as you take time off from your busy schedules. You will surely not regret every day spent in the country as the people are beyond friendly.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love sightseeing, reading, gardening and swimming
Why should we support On Call Africa?
Because On Call Africa is reaching the remotely located facilities which rarely receive any support and have no basic services required for quality delivery of health services.
