Emma Kennedy

What’s your role?

I am the Fundraising Manager, so I am in charge of securing all the income for On Call Africa and managing partnerships for all of our projects and running costs.

What made you decide to work for On Call Africa?

After working in Zambia for a while, I have really seen the need for advancement in Public Health and I am keen to be a part of making that happen.

What were you doing before you joined On Call Africa?

I was fundraising for another organisation in Zambia which focused on educating underprivileged students from a rural community from Pre-school through to Tertiary level.

Why should someone give up their time to volunteer for On Call Africa?

The work On Call Africa does is life changing and it is amazing to see the impact of this.  The team are great fun and it is exciting being part of a high impact organisation.

What’s your biggest challenge for the year ahead?

We have some ambitious but achievable targets for 2023.  I am looking forward to coming up with some creative ways of fundraising in the next year and really pushing myself.

Tell me something about you that no one else knows…

If I told you, then everyone would know!

Have you got any tips on Zambia for future volunteers?

Zambia is a beautiful country and a place I have been lucky to call home for over 5 years now.  It is very safe and rich in culture, from food, crafts and of course dancing! The wildlife is incredible, and sometimes surreal when you get stopped by a herd of elephants just popping to the supermarket!  There is so much to see in Zambia and where we are based in Southern Province we are so close to the boarders of Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia it is the perfect base to explore the region.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love cycling, particularly through the Mosi Oa Tunya National Park spotting some wildlife along the way! I also try my hand at photography and a bit of gardening too!

Why should we support On Call Africa?

The scope of what On Call Africa does is truly life changing and promotes long term change and impact. It focuses on a multi-faceted approach to improving health care systems and makes exciting progress in areas which need it the most.
