What is your role?
As the Finance and Administration Officer my role is to support the programme team to monitor the expenditures to ensure that programme funds are utilised appropriately as well as supporting the Finance Manager to manage the financial controls, prepare, and analyse budgets, develop financial reports, and make recommendations to the project team on budget expenditures.
What made you decide to work for On Call Africa?
Work culture, I have always wanted to work for an NGO, when I came across the advert from OCA, I quickly checked out the Facebook page and from the employees’ reviews, I automatically knew it’s a place I wanted to be and now that I have joined the team, it’s a dream come true for me…. perfect work environment.
What were you doing before you joined On Call Africa?
I was working for Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) under their Finance department and before that I worked for Country Lodges Group as an Operations Manager
Why should someone give up their time to volunteer for On Call Africa?
Working for OCA gives you a sense of belonging, it gives you the opportunity to work hand in hand with the communities where you will appreciate that every service you render will go a long way. Having to see the distances most people in the rural areas must travel to access better services, be it in health, education or water will really make you want to give back to the communities and make a difference in every way possible.
What’s your biggest challenge for the year ahead?
I am likely to start a family, so thinking of having to balance between work, school, being a mother and a wife, sounds interesting at the same time challenging but I am ready and I feel it’ll be the most interesting.
Tell me something about you that no one knows
I love children, whenever I get in contact with any, the first thing I do is pray for them from my heart, while giving them a hug or holding those beautiful small hands, I’ll be there praying in silent.
Have you got any tips on Zambia for future volunteers?
Yes I do, Zambia is a very beautiful country, when you are here, try making your stay memorable by making friends, visiting places such as the source of the Zambezi river, having to see the most celebrated traditional ceremonies in Zambia such as KUOMBOKA, LIKUMBI LYA MIZE, N’CWALA, UMUTOMBOKA AND LWIINDE. A visit to the Victoria falls and don’t forget to enjoy the local cuisines e.g BUHOBE BWA MWANJA, TAPI NI SINDAMBI!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love to travel, especially by road, I enjoy driving long distance and my most recent trip was Livingstone to Mwinilunga-Ikelenge district, where I went to see the source of Zambezi River.
Why should we support On Call Africa?
OCA is really doing a great job in the communities of Southern and Western provinces of Zambia, ensuing that people have equitable access to health care facilities and water among other things. In the rural areas of Zambia, most people have difficulties in accessing these services, therefore, by supporting OCA, you are literally taking these services to the communities and making a lifetime difference in the lives of the people living in these communities.
