What made you decide to work for On Call Africa?
To contribute to On Call Africa in improving access and quality of WASH services in facilities in Zambia and strengthen the integration and management of sustainable WASH models and guidelines; Empower and strengthen local structures to improve sustainable and inclusive access to WASH services in communities, and HCFs through a human rights-based approach (HRBA).
What were you doing before you joined On Call Africa?
Senior Consultant with MEGA Consulting Limited – Specialised in implementing Community Development Programmes especially in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); WASH in Schools, Disaster Risk Reduction, HIV/AIDS, Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, Advocacy, etc.
Why should someone give up their time to volunteer for On Call Africa?
Zambia has few healthcare specialists. In rural areas they’re almost non-existent. Volunteering helps to save people who’ve been deprived of health care.
What’s your biggest challenge for the year ahead?
Mobilising and empowering communities, particularly children, to demand their rights to WASH that will offer them the Voice, Participation and Security working with government stakeholders due to sensitive nature of advocacy work.
Tell me something about you that no one else knows…
I have a lumbar puncture after suffering from meningitis. I got it in 1989 when I was in junior secondary school and was admitted for a month and nine (9) days in the general hospital. Oh, and I survived because of my age then.
Have you got any tips on Zambia for future volunteers?
Availability of different tasks that depend on the project you will be volunteering in.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Listening to Old School music of the 1980s to early 1900, watching movies and keeping fit doing exercise.
Why should we support On Call Africa?
To contribute to WASH in healthcare facilities by facilitating provision of quality healthcare services, particularly for children and pregnant and lactating mothers, and participation in resource mobilisation to grow the WASH portfolio.
